08 - OWL - A5

Caroline Martin enjoying a special moment

The members and volunteers were treated to a wonderful visit by John Hewson and his magnificent owls.  John has been showing his owls around the locality at events and clubs for many years.  He has a marvellous rapport with the birds.  Members were given the opportunity of holding them and feeling how soft their feathers were .   It was a marvellous  experience and an absolute pleasure to be in his company with the owls.

Vintage Morning 2015

The morning of 19th March members and volunteers were treated to entertainment by Dawn’s Vintage Do.  Dawn Gracie is a singer and entertainer.  She sang songs from the past from wartime classics to the 50’s up to the early 70’s.  She sang songs old and new and there was a real party atmosphere.  She gave a lovely performance on the stage, dressed up in ’50’s clothes and also interacted with the audience. Members and volunteers  enjoyed singing along too and also dancing!!  She had a wonderful voice and the songs must have brought back some wonderful memories for the audience.

The West Sussex Travel Society Charity has supported the Club on several occasions with our transport expenses, which amount to a large percentage of our annual running costs.  This year the WSTSC gave the Club a cheque for £1,500 which was very generous and much appreciated.  This money will go a long way to meeting the annual costs of transport for the Club.   A very big thank you to WSTSC.

Visit to the Planetarium

33 members and volunteers from the Club visited the Chichester Planetarium, where they were given a presentation on the origins and effects of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

The presentation consisted of stunning portrayals of the night sky over Chichester as well as illustrations of the sun spots and the atmospheric conditions which cause these fantastic displays in the Arctic sky.  A variety of colourful displays were shown on video against the backdrop of the Arctic night sky.

After the display, the club members enjoyed coffee and cakes to complete a wonderful and enlightening visit.
